I think by “vertical” they mean the same as parallel to the forestay. Anyhow, Schurr is gonna make me a set so as long as they roll up good I’m fine...

I think the normal setup for roller furling is with vertical jib battens. Checkout the SLO sails website. They have some good pictures.
