I guess, but I work with razor blades everyday. you can get a feel for it so you don't do any damage. I do agree most won't want to risk it.

I checked it out, looks reasonable, but there is a snag as always. My spinnaker pole is 2 1/4" dia, most of these midpole systems are for 1.5".
