After looking at this one closer it is a one sided cheek block. Mine does not have the screw hole in them.

I use these currently and the on/off goes through the block for access to both sides. They work great.

My '76 5.2 did the same thing. Without a core lamination it will flex more but that is fine. If the stringers are solid than they have not been damage...
