Both of my SC17 masts have the hook at the bottom of the sail track. It works well and is easy.

My SC17 has a tiny, maybe 1/8" hole in the very top of both transoms. I never knew what is was there for but perhaps it's a vent.

Look at a Getaway. Easy to sail and not over powered. They handle 4 people well and I had 8 people (mostly little kids) putting around.
