We just bought new wheels and tires to replace the old one piece tires that have given up. The one piece
assemblies are about 5 inches wider than the new wheels and the old pvc spacers don't fit in the new
wheels. Just wondering how some of you handled the spacing issue when updating?

Thanks,
Pete

Not sure exactly what you mean Pete.
Are these the real Cat Traxx?
does this help?

Do you mean the vulcanized rubber wheels?
Where the rubber goes over the rim?

I had a set of those once. I never changed the rims on them but I thought there was a pin in the axle.
Couldn't you put the pin hole in a new spot to fit the new width?
Though I will say the Traxx I have now are much different than the last set I had. (both non-vulcanized)

Yes they are genuine Cat traxx. The early ones had the tire made on to a small center that I guess you would call a rim. I saw that thread on dissecting cat Traxx but he has the new style wheels and I believe that he has the steel washer on the wrong side of the plastic washer. Yeah drilling a new hole is the obvious solution but not very elegant. I think that I will use the existing outer cotter pin holes with modifying the pvc spacers and then
making some aluminum rings with stainless set screws to adjust for the new width. Thanks for the replies.

Pete, that is an album I made. The chap I bought them from took them apart, so they would fit into my Honda Civic. I took some photos before he took them apart, & that is how I re-assembled them.
You're right, never gave it a second thought, but it makes more sense to have the plastic washer against the bearings. FS doesn't have any assembly info on their website.
I would just drill a new 1/8" hole to accommodate the new width. The newer Cat Trax come with several holes pre-drilled to accommodate different width boats. When i bought those they were set up for the narrower boat, I assembled using the "wider" holes. It's worth buying new cotter pins. If they are even a bit bent, it is hard to get them through the holes.
