Update a 1986 tornado cat.

Yeah that was the guy I was going to recommend. Don't let the Prindle moniker fool you I think he has 5 tornadoes in his back yard... Maybe one will be mine one day.
Hey Pete, would the self tacker work for my Nacra? I would need to get my jib recut of course but I was going to get a custom one made anyway.

self-tackers are used mainly on race and spin boats. (not exclusevly, i.e. supercat 17's but they also have an optional spin rig)
Most serious races (and therefore race boats) are now upwind/downwind only.. and don't reach. (they used to have a reaching leg)
upwind you dont need a big jib, downwind, they use a spinnaker
you would suffer greatly downwind and reaching with a small little self tacking jib

we do have a guy in our fleet that has put one on his mystere 5.5. it is a hybrid cat, with 10'beams (xl) and a tornado rig (31 vs 30').
he does fine upwind, great with a spin but suffers both in light air and downwind when its not right conditions for the spin (shallows or not enough room in a pass/channel)

Ah I see, just thinking about how to make things simpler for my crew (wife). Just got a set of used oxen blocks and put beckets on them, man are they sweet! That should make things much easier for her and me since they are much easier to cleat and uncleat especially from the back of the boat.

well it is an option. u may lose some performance downwind but its there.. so is removin the 4way system and just attache the jib out, you may suffer upwind with slot control but you could free up deck space.
