There seem to be a number of people sailing with the new square-top main sails from Slo Sail. They're a little oversized; the Nacra 5.2 is 165 ft^2 vs orig 154 ft^2. Is anyone racing with this and what have you done with your rating? Is there a formula or some other generally accepted way to modify the boat handicap?

If you make the added square top area out of a clear material and the pin top shape out of something colored maybe no one will notice and you can keep the slower rating. πŸ˜€

The best option would be to race under SCHRS; all the tools to calculate the ratings are on the website.

I know your kidding but ...
rules of sailing - rule number 2 (only outranked by safety) is the rule of sportsmanship

2 FAIR SAILING
A boat and her owner shall compete in compliance with recognized
principles of sportsmanship and fair play
. A boat may be penalized
under this rule only if it is clearly established that these principles
have been violated. The penalty shall be either disqualification or
disqualification that is not excludable.

In my area, our local races are always PHRF. Anyone care to comment on the fairness of applying a SCHRS-based correction factor to PHRF? Is it common to convert one ratings based system to another?

Look in the USSailing Portsmouth tables, there are adjustments for various modifications. A wild guess, 10% faster.

Bad dog 😑 πŸ˜† 😑

I have stayed pintail so as to not deal with the rating issue. Many regatta NOR's I see now specify that entrants MUST have a current Portsmouth number.
