Spin setup H21 SE and general spin use question

A sail maker would not be the best option to get a snuffer (IMHO).. this is hardware that they aren't experts in..

If you plan to class race your Hobie you must use Hobie gear (or class approved).. if you don't race.. then get what you want.

I use a Capricorn snuffer and a tornado sail. it is convenient (compared to using a bag) and keeps the tramp much cleaner.. but there are still iines everywhere.. and it can be amazingly frustrating to master (lots of cursing, yelling, and on 2 occasions i had to cut my 90' halyard/retrieval line to avoid disaster).

All that said... I LOVE DOWN WIND SAILING now.. and if i dont have a spin.. i am really bumming. My friend wont even go out anymore if he can't use his spin...

my thoughts:
if you have crew... there is nothing wrong with "bag launching". i used a laundry bag for the first 4 months i had a spin. It is a little hastle.. but so is a snuffer... you have several line to manage, and timing, angle to wind, waves and all other things happen at 1 time (not to mention your boat will probably want to head up if you are solo.. as you have to let go of the tiller ... and that is bad with a spin.)

If you want to get a snuffer, look at the SNU system, i hear great things about it and the guy is awesome who makes them. he will work with you on the correct size.

After almost 4 hours of driving on a Sunday night back from Long Island, we made it back alive!!!

Needs some work here and there but I am too excited to get this thing ready and out for next year.

Awesome....my boat had the same graphics until I painted it; and the same aluminum trailer. I had to order the rear mast support for the trailer since mine was missing. Why wait until next year to sail her?

Already have the 16 setup on the dock.
Plus I have a few things I want to do before sailing this thing. I hate trailering and setting up.

I have to figure out something with the graphics.

Just to take a look. I have only seen 1 in person (mine) and there isn't too much out there. Would also like to chekc out the paint job

I got Scot at Performance Sail in Melbourne helping me get an asymetrical spin put together for my 21se, mid-pole snuffer and all. It may cost more than I'm can afford to spend at this time. I'll let you know what the parts breakdown looks like.

What about a spinnaker sock? I have used them on monohulls, but haven't heard or seen anyone on a beach cat with one.

Snuffers! yes most cat's use them (instead of bag launching).
there are 2 different kinds that are common, mid pole and end snuffer. Most use mid pole snuffers now..

I believe the end pole system allows you to go more around a mark (during racing) and gives a slight advantage, but the mid pole makes it much easier to fix a sail that has fouled (you can crawl/slide out to the end of your bow to fix it, you can't on an end pole system unless you are a contortionist).

I personally use a Capricorn Aluminum ring, mid pole system. It cost me about $250 2 years ago, but has gone up to around $450. Many people LOVE the SNU system ( http://www.gobarefootstudio.com/snu_08.html it looks good and the guy who makes them is great to work with. I almost got one but had a wind surfer mast as my spin pole and it was tapered so i wasn't sure if the snu would fit it.
