Daughter came up with a cool sail design but it would require black or dark blue hulls for maximum visual impact.

Question is...I have never seen any dark colored beach cats. I know composite airplane builders avoid dark colors due to heat buildup possibly damaging laminates. Any thoughts on whether this would be an issue for a cat?

Try "prindle catamaran" $700 (Bonsall) in San Diego Craigslist. Pete

Thanks Pete, I hope "crack" and "loose cracker" don't refer to the fiberglass under the black paint! πŸ˜€

I would stay away from that combo unless you install a vent tube or two somewhere - Hobies have enuff issues on their own No need to help them along

I saw a Trac 18 painted black. Hulls were very hot to the touch, on a sunny, 80 degree day.

my friend's (newly painted) battleship grey cat is noticeably warmer than my (dirty) white one

Daughter came up with a cool sail design but it would require black or dark blue hulls for maximum visual impact.

Instead of playing dress-up with your boat, get out and sail it! :rofl2:

I knew that's what you would say and exactly what I've been thinking as well!

Yeah, the new paint job and square top wont do much good sitting in the backyard.
Hope to see you Sunday weather permitting and wind cooperating.

Wow, I can't imagine how hot that thing must get sitting on a beach. My black anodized mast gets so hot I have to wear gloves raising it.

Probably fiberglass doesn't hold heat like aluminum but still..

Needless to say, it hasn't sold & I advised them to paint it, both to get rid of "crack" (it would never cross the border!) and the black paint. Takes one hour to rough it up, 1 qt Interlux Brightside, 3 hours to paint. Pete

Well that is what we're gonna do. Orca paint job then go spear fishing for whales out of point barrow. Wish us luck! πŸ˜€
