Paint suggestions
I need to paint some contrasting index marks on gelcoat (mostly rudders, centerboards and a bit of deck work).
Will Krylon work?
Do I need to prep the surface beyond cleaning it with acetone first?
Should I seal it afterward?
I do not have any wax, polish or speed goo on the gelcoat now.
Sheet In!

I painted the bottoms of my hulls with several coats of 2 part epoxy paint (West Marine) like 3 years ago. Prep was a light sanding with wet/dry 600 and acetone. the paint has held up exceptionally well with beaching the boat in non-rock ridden sand.
Krylon won't last. Consider using a small batch of West System Epoxy and pigment/dye (it can be dyed to get rid of yellow overtones). Many folks use this as the sacrificial keel coat every five years or so and dye it to match their hulls. I'm guessing its almost the same as what I used. Just tape off your marks roller it on with the ultra low foam roller (ask the guys at West Marine and they will hand you the correct roller) and "tip" to get rid of orange peel. Second coat should be before first coat hardens. Remember this coat will be slightly thicker that krylon, so don't get too nutty or your dagger boards will be tighter.

I used the interlux 2000 2 part epoxy paint avaliable at west marine. I love the outcome. I am sure it can be tinited blue, but no idea to acutally how, talk to the guys at west and they can point you in the right direction. as far as prep. i sanded first, was with acetone, sand again, wash with acetone, be sure to use gloves. have fun
