As one of my winter projects for the 5.0 I'm making up new standing rigging (1 X 19, 5/32" wire). I have the factory pull to pull lengths for the bridle wires and forestay, but need the length for the shrouds. Does anyone have it?
Also, as shown above, much of the rigging I've seen around over the years has two nicropress sleeves at each thimble. Are two really necessary or is the second merely an unnecessary manifestation of OCD?
Note that this will be my first attempt at making up rigging from scratch. Any advice would be greatly appreciated (particularly jig setups etc. to make certain the shrouds come out the same length).
Can't comment on the shroud length as I have a "custom length" mast. Will advise you that the second crimp is absolutely necessary, and both should look perfect. Tried to build my own and did a bad job with the backup crimp. The first sleeve was perfect so I thought it would be OK. Mast came down at first strong breeze. I will be buying finished standing rigging from here on out.

YES! Don't even think about single swaging a shroud.
I have a 5.0 mast in the basement, fully rigged, & will measure it next time I'm up at that house.

those little toy things you force together with a bolt are OK for thin wires, that don't carry much load, for what you are doing you need the proper tool. West Marine usually has the tools chained to a bench, they charge for the bits & pieces.
DO NOT attempt to make your shrouds as your 1st try at swaging. Spend a few $ on fittings & actually try making some loops/thimbles, it's harder than it looks to get the loops tight, & have no meat hooks hanging out.
But why bother? I just had a brand new complete set of rigging built for an H18. Most of the fittings are marine eye/fork, they cost quite a bit more due the cost of the fittings themselves & hydraulic swaging. The bill was $422 CDN, appx $300 USD. By the time I purchased the wire/forks/eyes I've almost spent that amount.

I plan to burn a number of "extra" ovals on old wire until I'm pleased with the appearance as well as the crimp final width dimension which determines the integrity of the swage.

There are a number of folks in my local club that need to replace their rigging. I think this tool will get a good bit of use.
