Lake Carlyle and Missouri Sailors

Monte, nothing close by, I am a trailer sailor, I go to Mark Twain Lake a lot as it extends E-W and the winds here are predominantly N-S, sometimes I go to Thomas Hill Lake up by Moberly, sometimes to Long Branch Lake up by Macon, and have even been sailing at Creve Coeur Lake in STL. I have a Nacra 5.2 project boat I have not even put in the water yet :heul2:
Cool "R", I'll be putting some miles on the road to sail as well, Mark Twain I hear would be rough with all the party traffic, how is it for you? Also, what are you sailing now? Sounds like the Nacra 5.2 is a work in progress. I'll have to send you some pics of mine, I don't take any credit for it myself, its a 88 restored/painted, new sails, feeling pretty proud. Still tons to learn, only have sailed around maybe 40 miles as crew, with maybe 15 being the pilot.
There is a group of us out of the St Louis area that sail at Alton Lake Sailing Association. Alton Lake is the term for the pool on the Mississippi upstream of the Alton dam. Unfortunately we are underwater with this odd summer flood right now, but hope to get back out in August!
Several of us from the club did pack up and head down to Table Rock Lake a couple of weeks ago.. Here is a video of some of the fun:
This was of course put together to be entertaining and have a few laughs at each other, none of the "oops" moments were edited out! (There is also an inside joke with the title)
Awesome footage. looks like a blast. Really cool seeing footage from a chase boat. My friend who got me into sailing has a lot of videos, some with me in them on his Hobie 16's:

also where are you guys sailing at table rock? I head down there 1-3 times a year, I would probably launch from here:

looks like around a 12.5 mile sail along the windy lake to get to you. That would take some time. Never tried anything like that on a "river" without a motor. lol. Well before I head out that way, I'll shout out to you all. Kinda wondering if I'll make it out this year that way.
Had the boat out this week, first time rigging and de-rigging successfully ourselves. Very small a lake Creve Couer, in St. Charles, MO, but we were desparate. Got in 13.5 miles consisting of around 31 Tac's and Jibe's. Lets just say we were tired, and tired of switching sides lol. Got a little hull up, as always felt like WAY higher LOL. We're learning.
Hey local's old post but keep it in the family. here is a video of me underestimating a gybe.

also renovator and warhovs. I saw you guys sailing on the river road. posted on your ALSA fb site. didn't look like you guys visit it much. anyway. Hi.
CS, great to see that you are getting the boat out, nice video! Glad we got to meet you at the Muddy Waters Regatta. Curious when you saw us sailing by the River Road?, there was a lot of good sailing this fall. One thing we don't do a good job of anymore at Alton Lake Sailing Association is keeping up a web presence. I'm not even on FB, but I have thought about signing up just for that reason, and to help others find us. We'll have to talk about it this winter, web stuff never gets priority when the sailing is good!
well, I don't blame you for putting sailing first 🙂 I think we saw you on 11-7 and it may of been around 3pm. I shared some pictures becasuse I honked at you, who know's where they are now. I saw the yellow hull 18ft. hobie, and a believe a white hull'd 18 as well. maybe red sails? you guys had your wet suits on of course.
I'll say one thing about the internet presence, sailing around here isn't exactly a young sport, so there is a lack of internet feedback, updates, and communication. Which I personally feel hurts the growth of it. Its hard enough getting new people into this sport. I'll be a member of carlyle next year and I'll be mentioning this to them as a suggestion to improve. I'm going to try to make it to Table rock with the boat in late spring, hope its a good time. not to many out there. Carlyle has tons to offer so I'll be looking forward to that next year. You should come out for a few more regatta's or just fun day sail. You did excellent in the races when you were there. Nice catching up.
~CS
CS, you were right about needing an updated internet presence, Alton Lake Sailing Association can now be found at:
(of course we are not just hobie sailors, but one of our members already had this domain name)
I don't know who else out there is in the area, but you and Renovator (and anyone else) are welcome to check us out any time!

hey warhovs, I checked out the site. looks very nice, good job. Is there a forum on there? or just pics and updates? just curious. Hope to catch you out somewhere this year. I've put a few miles at CSA so far this year. haven't been in good wind yet. to much or to little so far. We're not ready for these 17-25 mph days we've had lately.
FYI,
The website for Alton Lake Sailing Association is now https://alsasailing.com/
The previoius domain is no longer active.
