I recently got a pair of banged up hulls. Looking over them, its fairly apparent that they had a coat of paint or gelcoat rolled on at some point in the past. Is there any way to tell what it is? I know some paint is fairly toxic when sanding, but I need to do some repairs on them and that will require me to remove some of this outer coat.

Thanks

Rob

hard to cost effectively identify paints but a charcoal filter respirator (3m 40$) and some rubber gloves and a tyvec suit(8$) will protect plenty. if your feelin frisky you could strip the paint first but be warned, it can be severe pain in arse sometimes. if i were doing a "restoration" then i would strip it first, make repairs/fairing then paint. if not then patch and go!
