In the identify these album I added two pics of my FREEBIE. I got the cat from my boss. It is registered as a homemade but I found a serial number on the back of one of the hulls. MACO1990xx. It has a two piece mast and the hulls do not look homemade to me. Too perfect. I know it looks in rough shape but a pressure washer did a great job at cleaning it up after I took the pics. It is registered as a 14 foot. I have a Hobie 14 also that I use normally. So I think I figured out how to set this one up. I got a new /old Neil Pryde sail that will work on it for $100. It didn't come with a sail. Any help in identifying it would be great. Thanks Dan

I agree after looking at the manual. It's for sure a Venture Cat 15 Mk II. now the question is should I go through the trouble of reregistering it in Wisconsin not knowing the history? It's currently registered to me as a homemade 14 foot no serial #.

The first 3 letters MAC identify it as a Macgregor. Here is a data base with a ton of data/ You can click on one of the links above "Navigation" to download the file.

It seems there are two basic types, one has the bow crossbar & very distinct elevated pilings for the tramp/beams. The other type does not have the crossbar, or raised attach points.
Here is one for sale in Canada, asking $1250. There is also a very nice looking Free Style 474, $1000.

Macgregor thought mine was a 1977 but could not find the exact number in their files. They even sent me a copy of the manual for free via snail mail. It looks the same quality as posted on the net though.

That's strange, how did you manage to add photos there without first creating a sub-album for them?

As for Venture 15's the owners refer to the two versions as "straight hull" and "banana hull" versions. Pictures of both here.

Sold my Venture to a family for their son's 15th birthday gift. I delivered, setup, and took him sailing yesterday.
What a great experience to introduce him to sailing. After his lesson he sailed off with his mother and
two young siblings. I hung around and paddled their kayak to make sure all went well.
