I am going to replace the halyard wire on my non-comptip mast tomorrow. Is it possible to do without drilling the pin that holds the mast head together? Any advice would be appreciated!

It's normal to find a few "pickies" in a halyard--at the area that rolls over the sheave. But to replace, run the wire over sheave & crimp OR pinch the SMALL thimble & wire with a vice grips to feed thru the sheave. Pete

IIRC the replacement halyards (from Murrays, at least) have a small loop and no thimble on the end opposite the sail that will easily go through without taking anything apart. That end is only loaded while raising the sail (until the nicopress is locked in the hook), so it doesn't need to be big or heavy duty.
