hi, Found this 6 inch crack in the bottom of the starboard hull. There is a poorly repaired twin on the port hull. I have some ideas of how to fix it, but I want to quiz the crew to see what real Captains do in this case!
It is definately a trailer roller caused crack.

Do you have good access from inside the hull to repair? If not can you add an access port to aid in repair? I would sand down the inside of the hull and do most of the repair from the inside. I would taper the repair on the inside of the hull for at lease 6" past the crack in all directions. Start with small cloth and work up to larger pieces.

Yes, I have access from the inside, the crack is right under the inspection port (sorta lucky) I was also thinking of doing most of the work from the inside. I'd like to hear from others, specifically how many layers of what type of glass, etc. I like West System, even though it might be a bit more expensive. I'll probably be able to vacumm bag, it looks easy enough to me.

You may be aware of this thread in the Hobie Site, but it has been help to many with the same issue you are having.

I am putting cradles on my trailer this weekend to hopefully avoid this problem. Good Luck and keep us posted on the progress and process you use.

~~ Hey Catsass.... the same thing happened to me on my 17 Hobie.... Go into the ''tech help gallery'' snoop around in there. I couldn't do it from the inside and I used the "West system", they do have a book that helped me alott.
Start from the inside, that'll make it stronger, finish work on the outside.... That was my first time playing with fiberglass, it's not all that bad so don't let it scare ya.... PM me if ya need any help, or direct e-mail~~ popeyez7@aol.com
