Adding Batten Caps

My Nacra 5.0 has very basic batten caps that hold tension via a square not. It is not exactly the most adjustable system. Can I simply order any old Hobie batten caps? and holy cow they are more expensive then I thought.

Well a little more research found me the answer.

Don't bother with adjustable types. You are not going to see a measurable increase in performance. An '83 5.0, with old sails....just insert the batten enough to take the wrinkles out, tie off & go sailing!

I replaced the original style "tie off" caps (which I hate) with Hobie 16 caps and they work fine. I really like the ease of adjustment with the Hobie caps. I release batten tension after every sail and re-tension at the start of the next sail based on conditions.
I have a newer mainsail that came with no batten caps at all, just a hole drilled in the end. I truly hate that setup as tension is VERY hard to set. I end up tying and re-tying several times per batten to get the tension where I want it. Caps with cleats are the way to go.
