hi all, someone has asked me about the rudder length on the 5.2, am away from the boat so can't measure.
didn't nacra make long rudders for the dagger boats like the 5.2, but even longer ones for the boardless boats like the 5.7???
anyone know the lengths, are they in the murrays cataloge?
dotan recommend the rudder 25 for nacra beachcats

And my understanding was that the rudders and dagger boards for the 5.2, 5.5, 5.8 and 6.0 were all originally the same but then the 5.8 and 6.0 boards were changed later on. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I have a photo showing the 5.7 (1984) to be roughly 19". I'll take a better one tomorrow & post it.
The Nacra Parts manual for the older boats shows:
#4528 Rudder blade Short 5.2 5.5 5.8 6.0 18 sq
#4517 Rudder Blade Long 5.0 5.7

The dagger boards for the 5.8 and 6.0 have always been unique/different in size.

i would guess that my 5.2 rudders have an overall length of about 27inches, 700mm

would have thought the 5.0 and 5.7 rudders had an overall length of 30inches, 800mm...

could that be 29" Ed?

Now that I think of it, 19" is pretty weenie. Shouldn't even try to think simple math after arrival from a Shanghai mission!
I'll take a photo of the blade, in situ.

OK, a tape measure shows my 5.7 rudders to be 32",(give or take a 1/4") from the tip to the hole where the pivot bolt goes. The total length would be longer, depending what point inside the casting you measured to.
That portion should be the same for all models as they use the same casting.
I didn't get a photo as my arms are not long enough to hold the tape & take pictures!

ok, measured the 5.2 rudders at 700mm pivot to tip, so total length about 800mm, 30"
that should be the same for the other daggered nacras from the 80's, ie 5.5 and 5.8

and we know Ed's daggerless 5.7 has rudders that are 5 inches, longer, which should be the same as the other daggerless nacra, the 5.0

speaking of the weta dagger being a half weight replacement for the 5.2 daggers, the carbon rudders and stocks are also about the same size so you could save about 10-15kg by swapping boards and rudders over,

and then you could go really crazy and put 2 weta 6kg masts on, biplane style, in place of the 20kg alloy stick

i'm coming late to this forum and am going to throw some more numbers into this equation!

i own 3 nacra 5.8's and their rudders are 32" long overall length. the daggerboard cats have shorter rudders. (Murray's Nacra RUDDER BLADE N5.2, N5.5, N5.8, N6.0, N18SQ are all the same size)

the skeg cats such as the 5.7 have 35" rudders. i have an extra set and have also measured two other 5.7 cats and theirs were 35" long overall. Murray's no longer shows these on their website but as i recall they were a different part number for the N5.0 and N5.7 rudders.

hope this helps!
