Since the server "upgrade" there have been a lot more posts by "Guest". The old software did not allow posts unless we were logged in, but the new software has allowed posts to be made without a login. This has lead to a lot of spam and members posting as Guest. Until that gets worked out, just check you are logged in before replying or starting a thread.

Not sure if the problem has been resolved, but I just noticed that the couple of posts that I had inadvertently made as a “Guest” now seem to be deleted.

I also think something changed during that process because you couldn't post anything in a forum previously without being a member if I remember correctly. I just had to request a new password and get myself logged back in.

So TheBeachCats has become a spam honeypot. Every time I come here now there are multiple spam posts by Guests that have not been eliminated. After years of diminishing activity, this will be what kills the forum. !@DaemonLinkous, either fix the bug that lets unregistered guests post or bring on some more moderators, or this place has no future. My complaint is not without an offer...I will be first in line if you want Moderator assistance.

After one year, I repeat, this forum is being overwhelmed by spam. I will volunteer to at least delete it and ban the offenders and use any moderation tools to limit posts from offending I.P. addresses and email accounts.

Sad! This valuable resource of information has become an INTOLERABLE cesspool completely ruining the forum experience, and making it unusable!!

In the last 24 hours, I have receive over 200 SPAM emails, yes 200 !!!!! I can't take it anymore! I am left with no choice but to exercise the only option and that is to unsubscribe from the email notifications.

We are witnessing the death of the Beachcats.com.

I'm open to solutions, donations, etc. to see if Damon is interested in his time to get this resolved.

Thanks Philip. I unsubscribed from email notifications long ago, and I don't seem to get DM spams.

I never get DM spams. The email notifications are what keep me engaged to what is happening here. I will likely miss activity without the notifications because . . . life keeps me busy. I won't check in if I'm unaware of a post of interest.

Regardless, if the non-registered posting (spam) continues, the Beachcats dies!

I would really like to hear from Damon if he intends to find a solution.

Let me add that the spam posts in the forums are not even being removed anymore. The "Nacra 5.2 jib" thread is a disaster.

I'm able to remove the "guest" spam posts, these sometimes come in 100's an hour. Hard to keep up with. The spammers that actually have a real account, login, and then spam are much harder to deal with. I ban the accounts when I can, I've also started moderating new registrations and have to rely on real users to contact me when they aren't able to login.

I know it's very frustrating and for me more than anyone. During the last years I've made several efforts to move to a modern platform. My problem is not in building the new modern site, it's what I do every day. The problem I've been unable to solve so far is transferring the tremendous amount of great legacy posts and other site data to the new platform.

I'm going to make another push this week to find a solution. If I don't I'll just have to start again with "TheBeacchats.com 2.0" with an empty site to make it all usable again. It is all very time consuming and it's going to be expensive to get a migration done, but I don't want to be soliciting contributions unless I know there is a good path.

Thanks Damon. Let us know if we can help. Even if The Beachcats 1.0 exists as an archive, we can incorporate the valuable tech posts into whatever discussions we have going forward, and stop the pollution of what exists here.

Instead of reply to this thread and the WTF thread, I'll keep it here . . .
Thank Damon for updating us on the path forward and what is involved to resolve. Obviously, there are resources in time and financial commitment to move forward. Keep us posted on the efforts.

I, for one, am willing to donate to help the cause. Hopefully others are also, and maybe that gives you some solace that your efforts are not in vein.

In the meantime, the foreign language spammers can "PHuc rite Off!" :ficktmich: :mg:
