We just finished the Race to Alaska on a Nacra Inter 20, which has been upgraded to include custom aluminum wings (approx 3ft wide each, make a HUGE difference to stability particularly downwind), a pedal drive system, and a deep reef in the mainsail. We arrived in 4th place in 7 1/2 days, behind three 28-40ft tris/cats, beating several F31s and F27s tris in the process. We hit 19.2kts under spinnaker - she's a fast boat!

Anyways, we sold the boat to the race organizers as part of a buy-back program at the finish, and the organizers are now selling the boat back for $6k (surely negotiatble) -- they posted it on Craigslist, located in Ketchikan AK. Would be great for any sailors in PNW in particular. We originally paid $7.2K for it. Could be a good deal if you're nearby, negotiate the price, and want wings. Cheapest way to get it out of Ketchikan is to sail to Prince Rupert Canada (80nm) and then trailer it down to Vancouver or Seattle. Alternatively put it on a ferry direct from Ketchikan to Seattle.

I'll be posting some updates in the forum in the future on the modifications we made, for those interested in making similar changes on their boats.

Congratulations on finishing the R2AK, doing 750 miles in Canadian and Alaskan waters on an open boat is a hell of an accomplishment!

Absolutely - will be posting lessons from R2AK mods & gear over the next few weeks. We learnt a ton from folks on this forum, so I'm due to share back as much as I can!

Would you be interested in posting and sharing some pics with us on how you made the wings... there has been an some interest with a lot of Inter/NACRA 20 sailors looking to do this

I was wondering if the boat is still for sale? I am in Ketchikan but do not see the add on craigslist. The boat is in Thomas basin. Looks great. I will be driving back to Florida in October and might be interested. Thanks
Also congrats on the race!! I love watching that race each year.

Captpjr: The boat was being shipped to Port Townsend in August, should be there by now -- not sure if it has sold yet (I heard yes, then no, but that was still in back in late June).

You could try emailing Kris at nwmaritime.org. She would know the latest status.
