Hobie sailing kayaks??
Met a guy with one of the hobie adventure island kayaks and it looked like a pretty cool little multipurpose boat. Does anyone know more about these things? Are they worth it? The guy said he loved it compared to his wife's bravo, and his sons windrider just because it was so versital...
they are pricey, but ideal for a river/ocean inlet, three methods of propulsion, sail paddle and the hobie pedal thing. i would not recommend for just sailing, but there is a guy who launches one down on the st johns with fishing gear and he loves it because he can get anywhere pretty quickly.

we have many that launch on our beach. I agree with Philip, They have there place.
Last weekend while camping on an island , i watched a fisherman drive right up next to shore, rod in hand, casting without any problem, all the while,... moving and steering exactly where he wanted to go... with that hobie penguin drive thingy...
I also met another guy on one, a few years back. i was getting clobbered by a white squall line on my way to the beach. I furled my jib, lifted my boards, pulled my rudders up... and tried to keep my mast pointing up wards with all i got... meanwhile this guy in the Hobie kayak was sailing all around me, smiling, laughing, talking to me. it looked fun (in 20-40mph winds) and he seemed unphazed by the storm.

Sorry but i dont agree, these boats are not really similar in any way. . .
one is a trimaran with foot steering, one is a kayak with foot powered propulsion and a small sail.
