Hi, I am looking for a facility in southern ontario, canada to rent a hobie cat for a day to try one out. Does anyone know of a place that rents? I have tried a Hobie 13 wave but would like to experience perhaps a hobie 16 or similar before going out and buying.

Thanks!

Go to any real hobie dealer and ask for a demo ride ... tell him exactly that ^
or find a local fleet and offer to crew

There is a very nice Sea Spray 15 (no slug) for $1295 between Orrilia & Gravenhurst. Find dealer in Toronto (Dave) or try to find the "catilist" sailing site. Pete

Where exactly in S Ont are you? We have 2 nacras on Lake Simcoe. An aquaintance & his buddy around the bay have an H16 & Dart 18. Another fellow on the island across from me has an H17.
Fogh Marine in the Big Smoke can give you leads on Cat clubs around Toronto. There is a Cat Club at Etobicoke Yacht Club. Closer to London, there was a fairly active fleet of Dart 18's, on Fanshawe Lk I believe.
There is a small family friendly sail club on Lake Couchiching,

you could probably whore a ride on an H16 for a day. My Cats won't go under the bridge from Simcoe, but I see Cats sailing every day there when over with the power boat.

Thanks for the great replies. I live in Kitchener so I'm not terribly close to any lakes, yet within 2 hours of nearly all of them on S. Ont. I think I will try going to Fogh Marine and see if they have any advice for rentals and to check out what some of the new cats have to offer, as well as the cost to get into one. I hear lake Couchiching is a great lake for hobies so will take your advice and call up sailorillia. Thanks everyone

I would get hold of some of the people mentioned, & sail on them as crew for a day or two, rather than rent one. You're welcome to come up to Simcoe & sail on our 5.7 & 5.0 (NAcra). You can bike from my place across the divide to the Couch club in 5 minutes. They will definitely be out this w/e as its going to be hot, though the wind might be light.
I chose to buy a property on Simcoe because it is much larger, (750 sq km) than Couch. Also the north end of Couch is pretty reef infested.
A chap just a few doors down from me sails an Albacore, & got sick of us leaving him in the dust, he picked up a used H16, & told me it should be on the water soon. He would enjoy help. Another fellow who owns a metal fab business in Orillia has an H16, & his friend a Dart 18. His 16 did not get rigged last year, nor this year. He actively raced for 40 years, so there must be a serious reason he's not on the water. That 16 would be ready to sail if he is no longer able to sail it.
I think there is a club on Belwood Lake. Luther Marsh is a bust, no power boats there. Fogh should be able to put you in touch with everyone on the L Ontario shoreline
