New (to me) Prindle 16 in Southern Illinois
In the St. Louis area and plan to sail in Carlyle Lake. I have been through the rigging and made some iimprovements on the cat. Really just changing out some hardware and lines. The information found on this site has helped a lot. The hulls seem fine and the sails will be tested next Spring. I could always use the experience of a local cat sailor.
I look forward to any advice I can get.
Thanks

the single best thing you can do to the boat is go through the rudder system and balance the helm by the book(you can download owners manual here on this site)...this will take a few trips to get like you want it but when you have it right it's a pleasure. other things to look for on old p-16's is the dolphin striker rod seizing up to the mast base, leaky port hole covers(replace!), old standing rigging about to die, look for tears in main sail along the bolt rope next to the batten covers, soft spots in hulls, tramp soundness, and a general inspection of all fasteners(shroud pins, bolts holding hulls and rudder goudgeons. an ounce of prevention! good luck and keep us posted!
