Hi, We are brand new owners of a 1981 Prindle 16. We have named it Scary Cat in honor of a horrific little fur ball that allows us to live with it. Scary Cat was a bargain, we think. It had been sitting in the previous owner's back yard for several years and needs some love. We will likely request some forum members help as we put this girl back to use, so thank you in advance.

Nice to meet you Chuck and Carrie, and welcome to TheBeachcats.com! Thanks for filling out your signature.

You should find all the help you need here, plenty of Prindle knowledge.

First, do you have other Prindle sailors in your area? If you aren't sure then state your sailing area and we might be able to find you a local. Having local help can vastly speed up your learning curve, as can attending a weekend regatta, even if you don't race at first.

Have you got a copy of the owners manual? Try to get everything rigged as the manual states before trying any "modfications" or "improvements" that are so common with new beachcat sailors.

Lastly, you've been sailing monohulls, this is a different thing entirely, enjoy.

Ask away.
Everything you need is here:
1. Cheap advice and counter opinions
2. Parts, used and references to finding new
3. "Don't Do This" stories
4. Lots of pictures.

When you post a question it is often helpful to see a picture of the problem whether it is a particular part, or the way something is fastened/connected. Describing the situation can be difficult, and the picture can resolve a lot of confusion. Damon has posted instructions on how to post photos.

Welcome aboard.
In what part of what country do you sail?

I meant to include a link to the Prindle 16 Manual in case you couldn't find it.

Pictures aren't the best but it should take some of the mystery out of assembly. You can download the PDF version and print it out to make a manual you can refer to at the boat.
