I am looking at this boat, and the owner has it listed as a 17' Hobie cat. I have never owned a Hobie, but from some research online, it doesn't appear to have the correct frame layout for a 17. The frame appears to be mounted more like a 16, or 18. I think the seller may be unaware what model it is, and has measured it at roughly 17'.

If you can identify it, do you feel that $800 is a fair price with solid hulls, average sails, new tramp, and a trailer. Keep in mind that I am new to Hobies, and to sailing in general for that matter, and am not looking for top of the line.

Thanks

Welcome to TheBeachcats.com,

Hobie 16's are 16 feet 7 inches long so if the seller knows nothing about catamarans it would be easy to measure it at 17 feet.

That may get you a better deal because people looking for a Hobie 16 won't find this one. πŸ˜›

Can you get the Hull number off the stern? That will tell you the model year. But really the Sails, tramp, and trailer are probably worth $800 even without the boat.

After you get a boat report back here!

If the rigging is in decent shape - no rust on the wires, hulls good (make sure you press all around with the palm of your hand) especially on the deck in front of the vertical frame mounts. Make sure they are sound.

If good then thats a good price.
