Hello everyone,

I moved from Corpus Christi, TX to the Virginia Beach, VA area a few years ago, and brought my Aqua Cat 14 along with me. I haven't been using it but want to get back into sailing. Back in TX I was able to launch my boat directly from the beaches and I was wondering if there are any spots around Virginia beach or even south into NC that I can launch from. I don't expect to be able to launch from the ocean front due to the tourists and large numbers of swimmers, but anywhere north or south? Any advice and suggestions are welcomed!

When I lived in VA, surfed VA beach often, especially the north pier of Rudee's Inlet, searching for a better break I stumbled across a parking lot with beach access, looked like a great spot to launch a cat. Take S. Pacific south, past Rudee's Inlet road becomes General Booth Blvd, left on Croatan, right on Vanderbilt and that will put you into the parking lot.

Whether you can launch from the beach there is another story, I have come to learn that many areas are quite anal about policing beach access and have some anal-retentitive ordinances regarding access. I'm vacationing in FL right now, at Palm Beach Shores on Singer Island, I was informed that I cannot leave my trailer in the parking lot of the resort, even though this is private property, go figure, their attitude is one of "it's your trailer, your responsibility", no offers of help, no suggestions, nix. So check with local authorities first.

Thanks for the suggestion, Turbo. I will check it out and I will definitely check with the authorities before I launch my Cat. It seems like it is becoming increasingly more difficult to find a beach launch site. Hopefully this one works out.

Chix Beach, on the Chessepeke Bay, about 20 mins from VA Beach is the best place. Rarely crowded and there are at least 20 beach cats on the beach there.

Come on up to Chincoteague. You can launch on the beach at Assateague. I'm the only one who sails here.
