Weather can be nice to awful that time of year in Wilmington. Very few boats out then. Waterways are narrow here and you are trapped by bridges, open once an hour on the hour. Not very nice for sailing. Might contact Carolina Yacht Club in Wrightsville Beach. Used to be a hobie dealer here with storage on the sound but it's long gone. If you are willing to drive an hour Waccamaw Sailing Club has a fair number of cats and some drier boats as well. Area between Ft. Fisher and Oak Island is nice too.

Drier boats?
You mean some sailors don't get slapped in the face with cold water every wave?
That sounds boring.
