bought a prindle 16 this summer and have been launching in biloxi by the biloxi yacht club. had a few hull repairs and some general maintenance but boat is dry and fully functioning. we have taken it out 5 times recently just around deer island and in the sound but now were ready to go to horn and ship islands. looking for other cat sailors to hook up with for some fun in the sun. i live in hattiesburg and we have been driving down on the new hwy 67 which is nice, i'm at the launch in 70 minutes. i would'nt mind launching from ocean springs. just seeing if there is a good spot on the beach to put in. i prefer horn to ship island but either will do depending on the wind. 'nothin that a day at the beach wont cure! thanks, bill.

Have you been to Ocean Springs Yacht Club? Unlike most "yacht clubs" it's extremely beachcat friendly.

I think they have a "non resident" membership that's a really good deal.

Check them out, they hold regattas that include sailing to both Ship and Horn Islands, great way to start.

Moving this discussion to "Sailor Talk" out of "Site Talk".

Sailing to Horn is a lot of fun, one of these days I want to do the trip when it isn't a race "Horn Island Hop", 4th of July Weekend every year.

horn is the crown jewl of the barrier islands...13 miles of pristine sand dunes, brackish lakes, eagles, salt water aligators, wild boar, wolves, big fat raccoons, rattle snakes, horse flys, gnats, mosquitos, not to mention tons of every kind of swimming life form the gulf has. the only man made structure is the rangers station(shack) and his dock. its great that horn, petit bois, ship, and cat islands were left wild so we can see what a beautiful beach looks like without condos, light poles, bridges, roads, walmart, and so on...camping is not for the faint of heart...those fat raccons arn't scared of much!

land of the lost...time capsule...its a good 14 mile sail from ocean springs/biloxi. katrina killed a good bit of the pine trees but spurred a growth spurt of every other life form...fishing now is off the hook! redfish, speckled trout, king mackeral, cobia(ling or lemon fish), flounder, blue crab, stone crab,shrimp...its also a styling party spot with plenty of lovelys for "socializing"..i just hope they never decide to put a casino/hotel/pawn shop on it, its part of the gulf island national seashore but you can never underestimate the power of greed and the lure of a beautiful private beach.
