Coming back from a day of sailing on Sardis Lake, (Como, MS) I found this forlorn "retired" beachcat being used as attention getter (greeter) for a boat storage lot.

Take a look at the detailed pictures and see if you can identify. Extra credit if you spot the funny problem with the boat.

Can't identify the boat, but it seems the hulls were swapped. Looks like a bridle-wire attachment point is on the outside of the port hull.

Early hobie 16. Hulls on backwards, left to right. Bows have been reshaped. Rails and beams on backwards, mast step at rear. Other than that it looks perfect!

It's definitely not a Hobie of any kind. It's got some exotic curves in the hull sides and a big overlapping deck joint. The fore and aft beams have been reversed so the mast step is on the aft beam. 😛

I didn't get to measure it, but I did talk to the guy at the storage lot and he is going to see what he can find out from the original owner. He might have the sails for this thing.

There were several copies of Hobie hulls in the late '70's & early '80's. When I got to Ca. in '80, I ran across a boneyard of about 20 hulls in Wilmington. Think they were called Kona Cats. This looks like them. Pete

Kill it with fire.

I'm Jon. I don't need a signature.

it looks like your a mile away from the rudders...with the forestay bridals on the bow, i bet it's a pitch-poleing machine! and of course, the dreded port holes right in front of the pylons for extra strength.

If you go by it again, can you get the HIN off one of the hulls. The first 3 letters should identify the maker.

I would have last time except the boat is sitting on it's sterns, which are partially buried in the dirt.

I looked around the pylons and platform but didn't see any numbers or manufacture plates.

Supposedly the original owner can be found and I'm supposed to hear from him, I'll let you know what I find out.

Ha Ha bring your shovel! If you get caught say you're just trying to give it a decent burial.

Isn't that why you trailer with the boat on backwards?
