I would place the stick on mounts
Each side of boom
Front of each bow
Each side top of mast
Package of mounts is about $20

I mounted mine on my forestay adjuster, hanging downward and facing rearward. It always seemed to work well. Here's a link to some vid from last year:

Variety is key, consider multiple mounts, including the mast. your hat and the rudders cross bar. Make sure to add a safety lanyard

Use any mount but tie it on!

+1
My first gopro didn't make it past day 1
I made an on-the-fly change (moved it to another mount) and mistakenly thought it was secure. I was wrong and it didn't make it home. GoPro was very cool and gave me 40% off my replacement order.

I now ALWAYS use a lanyard to secure it.
