The Americas Cup starts today, I'm really looking forward to seeing this battle, only three races starting today.

I don't see any TV listings for this, can't believe it won't be televised. The official website it here, no wind today.

a line over the wind and seastate limits by cory friedman at scuttlebutt

If the RC nanny is going to save you from the consequences of sailing an unseaworthy boat, why build a seaworthy boat?

someone with a beachcat should have sailed the course and declared themselves the winner.

It says you can watch a replay of race 1, but I can't find a link. Does anyone know if it is available yet?

This is funny. USA did win this race, but they had a start that reminds me of some of mine.

Basically they went into irons during the start sequence on the wrong side of the start line and were almost 2 minutes late for the start! Yep, I could do that. 😆

14:25
The excitement is palpable now, tension unbelievable. We are inside the ten minutes countdown. Breeze still around five to six knots. USA dropping the gennaker to the deck making a change and now have a light genoa and USA eject a back-up crew into the water at around 6min 30 to go.

14:29
Getting ready for entry to the start box at 5 mins, timing is crucial. Alinghi at 23 knots USA making 17 knots as the gun.

14:30
Alinghi cannot cross and USA take the immediate advantage, USA force penalty on Alinghi for failing to keep clear.

14:32
Both very slow with two minutes to go, Alinghi pinned to the left of the box a little and USA have the upper hand for sure.

14:33
USA to the right and both boats are above the start line, Alinghi have the penalty. USA have stalled, flat footed and are stuck, Alinghi win the start and USA are all but stopped on the wrong side of the line.

14:36
USA have not yet started and it is about 1 minute 45 seconds after the gun that the challenger gets back to the start line.

It is streaming in a loop at http://bmworacleracing.com/en/news/livestream/index.html as of 5pm CST. The ticker indicates that it will continue to loop until the morning in Valencia.

Thanks, that's awesome, just what I've been looking for, should have known it would be on the victors website. 👿

I'll be watching that for a couple of hours.

Wow, those are simply amazing. Years ago I used to fly gliders, & there is no doubt that the high aspect ratio wings of a glider were more efficient and resulted in less drag than other types. There are always compromises to be had, depending on what the main use of the aircraft was going to be, but I think history shows the future is hard sails with high aspect ratios.

USA Wins!

I'm sure the replay will be rolling on the USA site at
http://www.livestream.com/bmworacleracing

Video of the prestart from Friday,
http://www.livestream.com/bmworacleracing/video?clipId=pla_67e65c43-2baa-437c-8b31-f8ee70b31aa4
shows some cool details of getting ready to race. One thing fascinating about the giant tri is that it's 200+ foot wing mast can't be dropped (without a really big crane) so it has to sit at a mooring with a crew on board all night "sailing" the boat to a stand still. They feather the mast, but have to make adjustments if there are any bigger wind shifts.

I just wish there were more races and that some were in bigger wind and seas to see what happens with these boats.

Yikes, here's how to watch an Americas Cup race in style.

This is the USA Teams owner, Larry Ellisson's super yacht. He didn't even use it today, was onboard the big tri instead.

Great quote from Alinghi on whether the cup should go back to monos in the future.

"Why would you want to go slowly?"
