Before anyone thinks of trying this again they should read the account of 2 Hobie 18 sailers that survived the crossing!

How much risk and pain are you willing to take? Takes a "special" type to do these kind of trips.

Crossing Oceans is still in s special category because of the lack of hope for help.

Good luck to Vittorio and Nico!

They are only miles from the finish now, but losing rapidly on the track-record.

Here's a interesting link to all attempts, the first crossing was made on a H18
Magnum, in 1986.

Still has to be verified but they posted on Facebook

"We have crossed the finish line at point-à-Pitre at 12:19:47 UTC (Italian time 14:19:47). The new record is 11 days 1 HOUR AND 9 minutes. And it's ours!"

Old record set by Benot Lequin & Pierre-Yves Moreau in 2007 was 11d 11h 25m

I didn't realize that Vittorio Malingri, Nico Malingri, had done this before in 2008 in a time of 13d 17h 48m missing the record.

Congratulations!
