You could get a LifeProof case with a GoPro mount for the iPhone and put it about anywhere.

The iPhone needs to be in a box with a black top to stop the sun glare on the iPhone.

do you have multiple cameras or do you move one around from time to time? Always look forward to seeing your videos. Keep up the good work.

Do you know if you need internet in order to use the speed application? I have a basic smart phone, downloaded a speed app and I can't get any speed readings. Is it because I need an internet plan or maybe I should try another app?
Nice vid btw!
Edit:
Nvm, I just got one to work!! Thx anyways 🙂

Had the same problem for a while with my Android phone and here's how I corrected it. From the home touch screen-menu-settings-location & security-Standalone GPS services-make sure the check is highlighted in the box...you will get a warning that a third party may be able to determine your location but you can always disable it when your not using it. Hope this helps others.

Don't forget to uncheck the "use GPS' box when you are done. Most phones eat batteries with the GPS turned on, my Android will cut the battery life in less than half using GPS.
Also realize that "Max Speed" using a cell phone GPS may be out several MPH. The iteration rate is not as high as dedicated GPS systems,(the higher the rate the greater the battery drain).
We were tucking some short steep runs on the ski hill last year. Some of the guys with "phones" were clocking 90+ kph,(56 mph). That was just not realistic, World Cup downhill racers average around 120-130kph on the faster sections of the course.
If you use a dedicated GPS, there will be a setting to change the iteration rate, the higher you make it the more accurate, at the cost of battery life.

You will need to paint some parts of the box black to block out the sun.

Agreed.
I tried using Motion-X GPS on an iPhone in an offshore race this summer. The last reach was about 20 miles long and I needed an accurate heading to hit the finish line well. With my back to the sun the entire reach I was unable to read the screen well enough in the sunlight, even using the "new high contrast" setting within the app.

Disappointing.

I had to use the compass in my Suunto wrist watch. I would have preferred to get a true heading to waypoint from my GPS, rather than "what direction am I looking" from the compass.

I really like the app.
I really hate that I can't see it on the iPhone in sunlight.

No, you will need to make it with some L shaped plastic.

Good sail. The best I have recorded on my '84 5.7 (original sails) is 21.3 MPH, but not on sustained runs. I can hold 20.
Drill a couple of 1/8" holes, 180* apart, at the end of your beam. Turn a short SS screw into each one to retain the end cap of the beam. If you don't secure the caps you will eventually lose them, & they are getting scarce.

Nice video !

Question, what type of Garmin wrist gps is yours ?
you are showing the boatspeed in Large digits, would love
to have one.
Found one in a camping/survival shop, but it won't display
speed in Large digits, instead it shows elevation, bearing
and speed in small digits.
So pls give me the type-number of this Garmin.

Regards, André
