Tri-Point Race

August 18… if you’re not doing anything we have us a little race in Ventura, CA that is sure to put a smile on any cat sailor’s face – the Tri-Point Ocean Race.
The weather system around here usually provides for some great wind for a 34 nm clockwise run around Anacapa Island that is part of the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary
Additional information on this custom made beachcat race can be found here:

And the entry form

Got a few “Zonies” coming over and a some beachcat legend locals posting as well. If you’re looking for a ride, I am sure we can hook ya up on something that has more than one hull!

Mien haufen von Geschwistern des Tri Punkt
I wanted to thank everyone that came to this event and glad to hear you had a good time..
In speaking with PBYC they wanted to pass along the fact they enjoyed having us and look forward to the even next year...
Hope to see you again, and hope you can make it for the Milt as well next year..
This is a great race, John!
Thanks for putting in the effort to convince PBYC to alllow beach cats.
They must be pleased as well, as our turnout has been consistant enough to justify a safety boat. (And our safety record good enough to not warrant a safety boat!)
The Channel is a fabulous place in which to race, and even in uncharacteristic light air we had a great time.
For those listening in, "light air" in the Santa Barbara Channel usually means single trapeze. More often, the sun burns the clouds away just before noon and the wind will build to double trap and beyond.
I'm editing a GoPro vid from Bob M. and Shawn (the winners) that I will hang here (with their permision) when finished.
In the mean time, here are a few photos from the race:

That's great to hear, glad you had a good weekend. For a "blast from the past" check out this story from the 2003 Tri-Point race. Beachcats weren't always so welcome!
Mike Dobbs crashed the party on his Tornado. Anyone know if Mike is still sailing?

I wish we could get more "first person" stories like this, they are always fun to read.

Yes he is. AAMOF we were suppose to hook up yesterday as he is visiting from Vancouver B.C where he is living.. but I was fighting B to B traffic coming back from the day in Santa Babara

Your perfect start is undocumented, as far as I know.
As gorgeous as your F18 is, it is probably good that the start remains a mystery! 🙂
Shawn caught some footage with his GoPro on the final 16NM reach from Anacapa West to the harbor.
Here are a few photos of practicing for the race a few days before:
