OSYC Slip to Ship Regatta May 26-27 2012

been looking foreward to this one!

Always like the OSYC events - may try to come down just to hang out and support the bartender

Great, I can't wait. I hear there's going to be a ROCKING SOUTHERN breakfast... grits, sasuage, coffee, etc, etc, on Saturday.... big cooler of fried chicken and beverages to partake while you're chillin in the crystal water of the island.... THEN... a big jambalaya dinner combined w/an OSYC pool-side potluck Saturday night, music too. Sunday sail around Deer Island. The artist told me also the trophies will be UNIQUE, but pretty COMMON too... if that makes sense. Ship or BUST!

Count me in...maybe we'll have our on F18 fleet...Ron, John, Robbie, Andy and Kenny ;p

Kenny, we will soon have another F18 (same model as mine) here in Jackson, may be a while before he's ready to race.

Also there is that guy from Texas that showed up at Juana's with the Tiger.

Hey Ron...forgot about Daniel form TX...he prolly will come...wow could be 6 F18's ;p

My boat is still apart with a few more days of glass and paint work to go, and I am now headed to China on business for a while. I really aimed for this to be my first regatta of the year and I'm gonna miss it again. Next year it is a MUST for my wife and I. We have never gone, but the pictures make it look like a blast

I just registered. In the past there has been the option to purchase additional t-shirts while paying online. I didn't see it this time, did I overlook it somehow? Also I wasn't sure from the description if crew meals are included or additional.

I don't think it was there. It said additional shirts available at registration.

just registered as well. Hobie 16. That makes eight h16's and there is talk that boyd, calleb, and rocky are all three bringing their boats over.

Don't miss out.. be there and part of the EPIC island drag race, chicken eating, cold drink enjoying, clear water swimming on the island event... then race back to the club for jambalaya, music, and a club potluck dinner.... Whoo... looks like good wind too. -Rob the happy guy.

oh yeah... early check-in Friday night from about 6-8pm at the club... saves some time on Sat morning.

Getting on the road in about 1/2 hour. Watchout Ocean Springs here I come! Even got crew!

Rob, I did have a 3x5 banner made, so please scout me out a good place to hang it. Preferably visible but not stretched between posts exposed to the wind, don't think it's very strong, has grommets though.

Would like to meet anyone who is attending Slip to Ship from TheBeachcats.com, so please introduce yourself. I'll be the tall guy with the really shiny Hobie 18. 😎

Planning on setting up by around 10am and then getting out for a sail.

i'm out the door and headed south! oysters, shrimp, GET IN MY BELLY!!! all we need is wind(beer, ice) and i'll be doin' fine! jump in the car and come to ocean springs, around 40 boats so far!

44 boats signed up and a monohull Melges 24... ok ok ... I guess we can call that 45 boats.

Welcome the Melges folks... it's a boat in the water in the days when sailing is "supposedly" on the decline...

Hope everyone got back home safe from Slip to Ship, Got in yesterday evening and today have been paying for having fun all weekend getting caught up with work.

What stories to we have? I know Bill has got to have something interesting to share. 👿

Not much (hardly any) wind but years of lake sailing teach you how to handle it, even though it can make for a long day.

On Saturday we didn't finish until after 7pm when in most years it's more like 4-5pm.

On Sunday the wind was so light at the start that it took the first boat more than an hour to just make it into the Biloxi pass. So the race PRO made the wise decision to shorten the normal "Round Deer Island" course to just "Round Channel Marker 12 and Come Back". I think everyone was relieved not to have a 6 hour tour of the island after the previous days marathon.

my name is bill...and i have something to share..........after 3 1/2 hours of really slow sailing and i still couldn't see ship island(either one)...i became tragicly bored, so iraced golfdad75 back to the club and challenged him and zack to a stuffed crabmeat and cheese po-boy eating contest...and lost that too. my fighting spirit was compromised by the pre-race revellry/social happy hours/filli'n station de-bauch of friday. the liver was evil, and it was punnished...the excitement of friday also allowd me to forgo application of any "sun screening" agents that day as i was in a dang hurry to party(as i am often). fast foreward to saturday 2:30 p.m.-skin sizzleing, liver bloating, head throbbing, i and i(raced solo) recieve a call from terry suggesting we bolt, bravely...just then, a breeze arrives, i say "wait! i think i can make it!!!" then as fast as the breeze comes, she went...so i called him right back and gallantly accepted his challenge! brave, brave sir robin...bravely turned his tail and ran. i beat all the spin boats back to the club!
day 3 and still not right. the end.

Sounds like Bill definitely pushed the party side of a regatta weekend. :prost:

But for the others that soldiered away in the very light air it was worth it in the end. All weekend I felt light I was sailing like crap. Mostly because of the conditions but also because it was my first races since the Juana Good Times last September.

They had some cool trophies though, we used this same type for years at the Broken Mast Regatta with the Memphis Hobie Fleet.

Mine had the diamond spreader bar attachments!
